Light It Up! DC Solar Flare Tech Show Sat. Jun 16

Life east of the river gets a little brighter with the DC SOLAR FLARE solar festival at HD Woodson High School on Saturday June 16, 2012 from 9am-4:30pm. One of the many guest speakers will include Ward 7's Dennis Chestnutt of the advocacy action group Groundwork DC

The event is being organized by DC SUN (DC Solar United Neighborhoods). Their mission is to see people spend money saving the planet instead of spending money on their pepco bill. DC SUN is working to make solar energy available to all income levels in the district through grants, coops and events like DC Solar Flare.

Even our little Ward 7 has a Ward 7 Solar Cooperative to discuss how to make solar technologies work in our every day lives.  This is a major step forward for Ward 7. As gas and oil prices increase, we will need access to more innovative and affordable ways for an environmentally conscious lifestyle.

The DC Solar Flare festival will feature:
  • efficiency & renewable energy and green living businesses and organization exhibitors
  • science and energy displays and activities for kids
  • workshops and speakers on how to go solar; save energy, money and live greener
  • films like 4th Revolution: Energy Autonomy and An Inconvenient Truth
  • Solar Photovoltaic, Solar Thermal and Solar Cooking demonstrations
  • solar projects: solarized exhibit tent and solar-powered WiFi network
  • healthy food vendors
