See Southeast Run! Girls on the Run 5k @Anacostia Park 10am Sun. June 3

Hundreds of girls ages 8-13 will descend upon Anacostia Park this Sunday June 3, 2012 to take on the annual Girls on the Run 5K. The fun kicks off at 10am as girls from all over Washington DC will challenge each other along the Anacostia River.

East of the River resident, Shahidah Nicole Hamlett will participate in this year's Anacostia 5K as a run buddy and cheerleader to support her two daughters. After running last year's event, she said, "I think I had more fun than the girls". Shahidah organizes weekly meet-ups for Black Girls Run! every Sunday in Fairlawn SE. I joined in on one meet-up that offered up a great variety of walkers, joggers and sprinters.

Sadly, I was winded mid way through the run and ended up with the walking and relaxing crew. But I will be at Girls on the Run offering free yoga stretches, support and encouragement to our future athletes of America! Girls on the Run is an excellent way to introduce young women to an active lifestyle and connect with the Anacostia Park!
