A tide is turning east of the river and it washes ashore on May 14- May 17 with Active Anacostia a Yoga Studio Pop-Up at Tendani Art Place on 1922 MLK Jr. Ave SE!

From the first day that I moved to Anacostia, I have always envisioned a place for healthy food, holistic health and integrated movement. My optimism waned as people would mock me and scoff at the idea that progressive health could happen in the hood. But lately, things have shifted and residents east of the river are demanding a better quality of life.
Yoga is just the beginning

In collaboration with Tendani Art Place, DC Yoga WeekNational Women's Health Week and WABA Bike to Work Day, wellness experts, yoga teachers and activists will build and share energy on how we can collectively revolutionize health in our neighborhood.

We want more for our health

Guest Instructor Juneous Pettijohn will launch DC Yoga Week in Anacostia with a restorative Yin Yoga practice. Juneous has over 500 hours of Yoga Alliance teacher training, a background in Public Health and currently teaches throughout Washington DC. Learn more about Juneous at

Yoga Teacher Sia Tiambi Barnes will bring her Hip-Hop infused practice to the east side with a Wednesday "Word is OM" yoga class. Trained directly under Faith Hunter, Sia's smooth yoga style creates a warm yet challenging class. Learn more about Sia at

Closing out the week, I will elevate the energy with a rigorous "Activate" yoga class blending Kemetic Yoga with Hatha Vinyasa Flow on Thursday. Stay for vegan delights by Chef Brennan Gerald and Vibe Sessionz hosted by Tendani Mpulbusi El
Sari aka Anacostia Yogi
Active Anacostia is a vision come true for me! All the doubters and naysayers will be watching to see if Anacostia will support a space for visionary health. Can a mixed-space yoga studio work in Anacostia? Will people show up? Do we have a market for health and better living? We will soon find out!

I would love to come & see a holistic, active environment East of the River! Question: Are these adult only events? If so I think personally for myself that would make it impossible to attend & that might also be something to consider for the future. Great work :)

I think I need some hip hop infused yoga. I've got to be able to find some in NYC right?
